    台南市是台灣最早開發的地方，可說是台灣歷史文化的發祥地，擁有全台灣最悠久的歷史和最豐富的文化資產，素有台灣「文化古都」的盛譽。

    現由前任台南市文化資產保護協會理事長國立成功大學建築系傅朝卿教授撰寫本書，將台南市由荷據至今所留下重要的建築文化資產，以簡明中英文對照，對於本市推廣文化資產保護，重新邁入文化資產歷史名城之路，實有重大的意義。

PREFACE

 

    Tainan City is the earliest developed place here in Taiwan. We may say it is the birthplace of Taiwan’s history and culture. Tainan has the oldest history and richest cultural assets of the whole Taiwan. That is why it was named the Cultural Old City.

    Now, the former chairman of Tainan City Cultural Assets Protection Association Professor Fu Chao-Ching of the Department of Architecture, National Cheng Kung University writes this book to make a brief introduction about the important architecture and cultural assets of Tainan left to us since the occupation of Holland up to now in both Chinese and English version, which really has significant meaning for Tainan City to promote its cultural assets protection and to step on the road to famous cultural assets and historic city.
